The average droplet size of nanoemulsions, a type of emulsion, ranges from 20 to 200 nanometers. A system of two immiscible liquids, such as oil and water, is stabilized by the addition of an emulsifying agent to form an emulsion. As their name suggests, nanoemulsions include particles on the nanoscale, giving them a high surface area-to-volume ratio and unique features from those of traditional emulsions. Particle sizes in nanoemulsions, a subset of microemulsions, typically range from 20 to 200 nanometers. Nanoscale particles with a high surface area to volume ratio are found in nanoemulsions. Encapsulated drugs benefit from greater stability, transparency, and bioavailability due to this distinctive property. Typically, high-energy processes like ultrasonication or high-pressure homogenization are used to make nanoemulsions. Several industries, including medicine, food and beverage, cosmetics, and agrochemicals, benefit from their small droplet size and stability. Macroemulsions have less stability, bigger droplet sizes, and an opaque appearance. Reduced droplet sizes, transparency or translucent, and good stability characterise microemulsions. Even smaller particle sizes, special qualities including improved stability and transparency, and increased bioavailability are all features of nanoemulsions.
